Edgemont Travel Basketball Inc., d/b/a Edgemont Hoops, is a New York State nonprofit entity. While it operated informally for many years, the program was established as a legal entity in 2019 by resident Jon Lewis. Edgemont Hoops is managed by Jon with assistance from other volunteer taxpayers residing in the Edgemont Union Free School District. As an Edgemont-focused community organization, we are eligible to use school district facilities for our programs.

The core program of Edgemont Hoops is travel basketball teams for grades 4 through 8. We also offer 1-on-1 and small-group training, clinics, and open play/scrimmage programs throughout the year. Our overarching goal is to provide Edgemont children of all ages and levels of skill and interest the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball.

All funds collected by the Edgemont Hoops legal entity are spent on basketball programming benefiting Edgemont youth. Our largest administrative expense is insurance (approximately $1,600 in 2019), which the school district requires in order for the program to utilize its gym facilities. Other major expenses are coaching and training fees, gym rentals, uniforms for travel teams, and equipment such as basketballs and electronic scoreboards. All management and administrative labor is performed on a volunteer basis.

Individual programs are priced to a) fund program-specific costs, b) recover program-wide expenses (e.g. insurance), and c) provide a reserve for equipment replacement and contingencies.

Edgemont Hoops is fully funded by its program participants. We receive no financial support from the Town of Greenburgh, the Edgemont School District, or the Edgemont Recreation Corporation (ERC). Edgemont Hoops works in close partnership with ERC to ensure our programs are complementary and schedules do not conflict.
