Edgemont Travel Basketball Inc. (d/b/a Edgemont Hoops) is a New York State nonprofit corporation overseen by a Board of Directors. It is registered with the Charities Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General and recognized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service.
While Edgemont Hoops operated informally for many years, the program was established as a legal entity in 2019 by resident Jon Lewis. Jon acts as President of the organization.
Edgemont Hoops is managed on a pro bono basis by Jon with assistance from other volunteer taxpayers residing in the Edgemont School District. As an Edgemont-focused community organization, we are eligible to use school district facilities (under the district’s building use policies) for our programs.
Edgemont Hoops offers both recreational and travel/competitive programs, as well as basketball-playing opportunities for adults. The program’s overarching goal is to provide Edgemont residents of all ages and levels of skill and interest the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball.
All funds collected by the Edgemont Hoops legal entity, whether in the form of program fees or donations, are held in an entity-specific bank account and spent on basketball activities and equipment benefiting Edgemont youth. Our largest administrative expense is insurance, which the school district requires to utilize its gym facilities. Other major expenses are coaching and training fees, gym rentals, equipment, and accounting/tax.
All management and administrative functions of the Edgemont Hoops organization are performed on a volunteer basis by Edgemont residents.
Individual programs are priced to a) fund program-specific costs, b) recover program-wide expenses (e.g. insurance), and c) provide a reserve for equipment replacement, capital improvements (see below), financial assistance, and contingencies.
Edgemont Hoops seeks to improve the school district’s basketball facilities whenever possible. For example, in partnership with the E-Club, we donated surplus funds to the school district to improve the Greenville APR floor, a project that was completed during the summer of 2023.

Edgemont Hoops receives no taxpayer-supported funding from either the Edgemont School District or the Town of Greenburgh.
